Telescope FAQs

1. Which magnification power should I choose?
A. If you are a first-time telescope user, we generally recommend a 2.5x. This provides a good balance between the magnification power and field size. If you are an experienced user, then the magnification increase that you want will really depend on your specialized needs. Feel free to call us and we can help you pick the right telescope for you.

2. What if I wear prescription glasses, contacts, or reading glasses?
A. The general rule is, whatever you work with, is what you should use your telescopes with. Also note, if you do not use your reading glasses for work but do not use them with your telescopes, this can affect the actual working distance you achieve. If you are ordering a new telescope, be sure to send us your complete prescription information.

3. Which one? Front-Lens-Mounted/FLM ( flip-ups ) or Through-the-Lens/TTL
A. That really depends on you. Some advantages of the FLM models are: you can set a truly customizable working angle, you can easily switch between magnified and direct vision, and changing the prescription lenses is very easy. Some advantages of the TTL models are: it feels lighter on the face and you can sometimes get a bigger field size (dependent on your facial features). The main thing is that SurgiTel offer both options with unique patented features for both sets. Again, call us and we ll help you decide what s right for you.

4. Galilean and Prism lenses what s the difference?
A. Without getting too technical, a Prism lens is different from a Galilean lens in that it contains an added mini-prism inside the telescope ocular. This allows you to obtain a bigger field size even at the higher magnification levels. Although most Prism telescopes are heavier in weight, our patented Compact Prism design takes a way a lot of the discomfort associated with other heavier prism telescopes.

5. Why do I need to wear loupes? I see just fine
A. Even with perfect eyesight, there s going to be a lot of detail that you re missing without magnification. The other consideration, is that in trying to see better, you ll also end up bending over while you work, thus hurting your neck and back because of the bad posture. With our patented telescope designs, you can both see and feel better.

Headlight FAQs

1. Why do I need a headlight if I already use an overhead light?
A. Even with an overhead light, you re still going to get lots of shadows. The headlight is your only guarantee to get shadow-free lighting.

2. What is color rendering and why does it matter?
A. Color rendering is just as important as brightness when it comes to selecting to right headlight for you. Color rendering is measures of how well a light will actually represent the colors of an object when it is illuminated. Some lights are better than others in this category. For instance, metal halide lights originally designed for industrial use have a very low color rendering index (towards the blue-green side) and may not be best for clinical procedures. Xenon and halogen lights, on the other hand, provide better color rendering for clinical work.
